If you love the great outdoors, and the activities that go along with being outside, you are in the right place. Billings offers parks, rivers, rimrocks, trails, and outdoor activities residents love.
- TrailNet – Billings TrailNet is a non-profit, grassroots organization that supports urban trails in and around the Billings community. Trails meander throughout town, starting down at the Yellowstone river edge, snake up through the Heights, across the Rimrocks, and throughout the West End. Residents and visitors are encouraged to walk, run, roll, and bike the trails or just sit atop the rims and enjoy the view of the Billings River valley. In September 2020, TrailNet was granted money to complete a 26.2 mile loop of trails that will encompass the entire town.
- Yellowstone River – The last free flowing river in the lower 48 states, the Yellowstone flows downstream from Yellowstone Park, through Billings, into North Dakotas where it joins with the Missouri River. Cool and swift, the Yellowstone offers fishing and rafting recreation. Two Moon, Coulson, River Front, and Mystic Parks offer access to river’s edge recreation and trails that connect them to town.
- Lake Elmo State Park – A 64 acre reservoir within the Billings city limits, Lake Elmo is a great place to picnic, swim, paddle board, kayak, and fish. Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks headquarters borders on one side of the lake with fishing pier, while a playground and picnic shelters frame the opposite side. Lake Elmo is dog friendly, so take Fido for a walk along the trail around the lake or enjoy the fenced area at the water’s edge specifically for furry friends to frolic in the water.
